CHILD DEDICATION

CHILD DEDICATION

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change" James 1:17.  At Open Heavens we believe that children are great gifts from God and we take the opportunity to dedicate them back to God a great honor. Child dedication is a step that a parent takes to boldly declare that they will raise their child in alignment with God's word. We offer a child dedication service that is designed to help you commit to raising your child to follow God.

If you have questions about our process for signing up for child dedication? Reach out to our administration team at admin@openheavenschurch.org.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Our child dedication services are held on Sundays as part of our Sunday service. We encourage parents, friends, and family to come up to represent the child during the dedication. You're welcome to invite anyone you would like to invite to this special event for your child. During the dedication, our pastors will anoint your child with oil. Oil is a symbol of the Holy Spirit and we believe that oil agrees with your desire to see the Holy Spirit work in your family.

WHAT IS THE BIBLICAL PURPOSE OF CHILD DEDICATION?

1 Samuel  1:27-28 "So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life, he will be given over to the Lord.” And he worshiped the Lord there" We see the example of how Hannah presented Samuel before the lord. In Luke chapter 2 we see Mary and Joseph present Jesus to the temple and dedicate him.

CAN A SINGLE PARENT DEDICATE THEIR CHILD DURING OUR DEDICATION SERVICE?

Yes! Absolutely yes! During our dedication service we believe that the parent/ parents are making a statement that they will do their best to raise the child as a follower of Jesus Christ. Ideally both parents, even if not married would still commit to the dedication of their child to God. As a church family we are committed to being a support to single parents by providing a Christian foundation for their child/s upbringing.

DO YOU BAPTIZE CHILDREN AT OPEN HEAVENS?

We believe that baptism is an individual's decision to trust and follow Jesus alone, example of this is in Acts 2:41. We do not baptize children as we believe that baptism is for those who have made a decision to accept Jesus as their personal savior.

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR ON DEDICATION DAY?

Parents and children are welcome to wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable.
